Cicero, Ind.—Purdue student killed in Hamilton County crash
A fatal accident late Wednesday night has claimed the life of a Purdue University student. According to authorities, 19-year-old Nick Ozolins was driving a friend's car at a high rate of speed when he lost control and slammed into a tree.
The crash occurred along 256th Street, south of Arcadia.
Ozolins was from Atlanta, Indiana. He was a freshman at Purdue, majoring in mechanical engineering. Investigators say Ozolins and his friend, 19-year-old Ryan Gushlak (also a student at Purdue), were traveling eastbound at speeds more than 100 miles per hour.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer traveled 200 yards after striking the tree. Hamilton County Chief Deputy Mark Bowen said alcohol and weather were not a factor, speed was.
