This Indianapolis Airport Authority is set to meet Friday morning and talk about trips executives are planning to take this year. This after a Fox 59 investigation uncovered lavish spending.
The new approved trip list is much shorter, down from over 100 to 79 trips. None of the trips are overseas. All are stateside, with just two outside of the country in Canada.
A Fox 59 report found airport authorities took a $10,000 trip to Switzerland and a $2,500 golf trip to Arizona. Former Executive Director and CEO John Clark defended his actions, “That’s how we build and establish business, so we have a seat at the table.”
Indianapolis airport executives were spending twice that of executives in Cincinnati and even Minneapolis, the 14th busiest airport in the country. Clark stepped down in March after pressure from officials who saw the Fox 59 investigation.
Mayor Greg Ballard says despite all the trips to drum up business, “What I’m mostly concerned about out there is the economic development aspect of the airport. I think that’s been slow, much slower than I would have ever expected.”
Fox 59 will be at Friday mornings meeting. We will have the latest for you online and on air at 4,5 and 10pm.
