The Stephen Haynes/Joe Morris-curated Improvisations series at Real Art Ways has been brewing up seat-of-the-pants music-making for quite some time now. Every month, trumpeter Haynes and Morris, a guitarist who also wrote a fascinating treatise on musical improv, gather freewheeling guests artists of all stripes into their caldron of invention. It's one of Hartford's cultural gems, a serious listening lab where the audience shares states of deep concentration with the performers. This week, they've invited Tyshawn Sorey (pictured), an astonishing drummer-composer with deep Connecticut ties. Prepare to be astonished.
