Readers React: One GOP extremist vs. another

Commenting on GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly’s accusation that his political rival, Neel Kashkari, favors sharia law, Rep. Darrell Issa said, “It is crap like this that gives Republicans a bad name.” (“Rep. Darrell Issa assails Donnelly for linking Kashkari to sharia law,” May 8)

One needs both hands to count the number of times Issa has said “hateful and ignorant garbage” about President Obama. He has wrongly accused the administration of lying, cheating and deceiving the public.

Issa can never walk away from the lies he said about the president, the attorney general and other public servants. Others seem to agree.

“The ignorance and stupidity of Mr. Issa’s comment is only surpassed by its lack of any factual content,” Donnelly said in response. Issa is growing his own scandal, and deservedly so.

As a lifelong Democrat, I have smidgen of sympathy for the Republican Party. It has worked hard to try to distance itself from all the nuts who are attracted to it.

Now here comes Donnelly to embarrass the party. My suggestion to the California GOP is to put Donnelly on a fast train to Arizona, where he would no doubt be embraced by all the like-minded nutjobs in politics there.
