Letters: Blocking a qualified Obama nominee
Re “Obama nominee blocked in Senate,” March 6
To justify his vote against Debo Adegbile — President Obama’s nominee to head the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division — Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said in an interview, “When someone has a history of helping cop-killers, this is what happens.”
As an American patriot, I am sure Graham also knows the history of this nation, including details surrounding the 1770 Boston Massacre. If so, I wonder what his thoughts might be on what a Founding Father and future president did based on his recognition of the right of those accused of a crime to a fair trial.
Indeed, John Adams, who would go on to be the second president of the United States, risked his political future to see that justice prevailed regarding the British soldiers who fired on those Boston patriots.
What would Graham say to Adams about the reasoning behind his vote? More important, what would Adams have to say to someone like Graham?
