Readers React: In praise of Venice cops

To the editor: Your article succeeded in humanizing a homeless problem drinker here in Venice who was shot by police. (“Man killed in Venice police shooting was a ‘loving soul,’ friends say,” May 10)

Ironically, the account was placed beside the report of a mentally disturbed young man who allegedly plowed his car down the Venice Beach boardwalk in 2013, killing a young woman on her honeymoon.

In a community whose base civility is being eroded by the mentally ill and drug-addicted homeless, let’s try humanizing the efforts of the police who work here in Venice to help restore its basic sense of safety.
