Readers React: Why 2016 doesn’t look so bad for the Democrats

To the editor: Jonah Goldberg’s column on the unsuitability of Vice President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s standard bearer is a perfect example of making arguments based on the omission of the truth. (“Is Joe Biden really the answer to Democrats’ problems?,” Op-Ed, Sept. 15)

Goldberg says the Obama administration has been disastrous for the Democratic Party on the state and local levels. In fact, in 2012, all Democratic candidates received more votes than Republicans; it’s just that voting districts had been so gerrymandered that Republicans actually won more seats in the House.

As for his point about the president being unpopular and polarizing, Goldberg should note that Obama inherited all the messes of the Bush administration, including two wars and an economic collapse. Obama has done what most of the people in this country wanted: to get out of the wars without starting more.

I agree that the candidates for 2016 are not good, but that applies to both the Democrats and the Republicans.
