Readers React: Where to build a battery plant?

To the editor: Just like the concept of shareholder value, enhancing one’s image as a green climate-change crusader is not a measurable metric. It is a result of building cost-efficient, value-added, less-polluting products that increase one’s standard of living. The Tesla car is a shining example. (Re “Too green for Tesla?” Editorial, Aug. 26)

I trust Elon Musk to do the right thing no matter where he locates the plant. It’s in his blood, his culture; it’s how he thinks. I wish I could say the same thing about the politicians trying to woo him.

To the editor: The state of California is trying to persuade Tesla to build its new battery factory here. The state is also on radio and TV warning about a possible “flex alert” and to be ready to reduce power to avoid a power outage.

Those warnings tell me that we are on the edge of a power outage, with little reserve power available.
Doesn’t that say to Tesla, “Don’t build in California?”
