To the editor: The involvement of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Tulare) in the congressional Republicans’ project to discredit special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation practically guarantees that it is bogus. (“House Republicans are shamefully doing Trump’s dirty work by vowing to ‘release the memo,’” editorial, Jan. 30)

This water carrier for the president has no credibility for anyone who has been paying attention, and House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) failure to put a stop to his outrageous actions is indefensible.

To the editor: This country has been torn by the issue of whether President Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence the election, and if he obstructed our efforts to find out what he did.

Of greater concern is Trump asking for the loyalty of those in government sworn to protect the Constitution (not the president) and seeking to deconstruct the very Justice Department charged with examining his actions.

He already has Congress seemingly doing much of his bidding or frozen into inaction. He has tried to marginalize the news media. What Trump is doing bears striking resemblance to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions when when he took power.
