Watch the Junior Seau ’30 for 30’ trailer that will tug at your heart

A trailer for the new ESPN “30 for 30” documentary examining the life and death of Junior Seau -- the late Oceanside High School, USC and Chargers linebacker -- is renewing memories among fans who revered the San Diego sports icon.

The documentary, titled “Seau,” is set to air on Sept. 20 on the ESPN+ channel. You can also watch the trailer for the documentary on the ESPN site.

Seau, a linebacker for the Chargers when the team was still in San Diego, died in 2012 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. It was later concluded that Seau had suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE — a type of brain injury found in football players.

His story is a fitting one for ESPN’s “30 for 30,” an acclaimed documentary series that has focused on both the biggest stories in sports and some obscure, untold tales..

As the trailer made its way through social media, reaction quickly followed.

Kirby Bradley produced the documentary, which features interviews with Seau’s ex-sife Gina and his four children — Tyler, Sydney, Jake and Hunter, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Other current and former NFL players are also set to appear in the documentary, including Drew Brees, Rodney Harrison, Orlando Ruff, Aaron Taylor, Hank Bauer, and Gary Plummer.
