Mark Hamill may or may not be in San Diego for Comic-Con 2018. Or so he wants us to think.

The actor has been using his Twitter account to trick followers for the last several days on his whereabouts as Comic-Con unfolds in downtown San Diego. But as of Saturday, Hamill had neither confirmed or denied that he’s in town.

In one photo that triggered speculation about his potential Comic-Con attendance, the actor tweeted on Thursday that “there’s an unsubstantiated rumor that I’m at #SDCC right now wearing a mask to avoid being recognized.”

In another tweet that day, he suggested he might be wearing a mask, including one of … himself.

Hamill, who is famously known as the actor who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies, has been a regular sight at San Diego in past years thanks to production sequels that keep bringing him back to the big screen. He also does the voice for the Joker in the 1992 Batman animated series.

Hamill also happens to be a former San Diegan who, in 2017, had a street named after him. Honorary Mark Hamill Drive is on the residential intersection of Mt. Abernathy Avenue and Castleton Drive where he once lived.

But his latest endeavor involved leaving his fans guessing. In one photo he tweeted to his 2.85 million followers on Friday, he said he was in “disguise” and “having LOADS of fun at #SDCC.”

The tweets have attracted internet sleuths and hawk eyes trying to determine his whereabouts. (Editor’s note: We are also interested to know if he’s in town but we can’t tell much from the photos he has posted.)

Those caught in Hamill’s ruse have been trolling him in return by tweeting photos of inanimate objects that they jokingly say is him in disguise. “His cosplay game is incredible, but he’s not fooling me,” tweeted writer Ken Plume.

Hamill was not listed in Comic-Con’s program schedule to appear on any panels this year but an attendance in incognito would not be unusual by celebrity standards. Many other Hollywood stars have fooled Comic-Con crowds by walking around in disguise, sometimes later revealing their secret.

But will Hamill reveal his?

If you’re reading this, Mr. Hamill, know that we’re on to you.
