Parents guide to "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," "Love Happens"
'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs'Rating: PG for brief mild language.
What it's about: An inventor saves his dying town with a gadget that makes food rain from the sky. But is that a good thing?
The kid attractor factor: In-your-face slapstick, goofy characters and general wackiness all presented at a frenetic pace.
Good lessons/bad lessons: "Smart" is never "lame." Encourage your kids and they might surprise you.
Violence: Some menacing situations.
Language: Quite mild, considering the stuff that's falling from the sky.
Sex: Even Anna Faris is "drawn" very PG, in this case.
Parents' advisory: Good messages, laughs aimed both at kids and over their heads, this should play to everyone 4 and up.
'Love Happens'Rating: PG-13 for brief strong language and some sensuality.
What it's about: A widowed advice guru falls for a woman who attends one of his seminars.
The kid attractor factor: Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart.
Good lessons/bad lessons: "Mental health begins with physical health," and it's OK to release exotic pet birds into the wild, so long as your intentions are good.
Violence: A car accident is relived in flashbacks.
Language: Moments of profanity, usually played for laughs.
Sex: None. Barely a smooch.
Drugs: Wine with dinner.
Parents' advisory: The grief-and-death backdrop to this make it nothing younger kids would enjoy or understand — 12-and-ups only.
