In this home, the owners wanted to keep their traditional sleigh bed, but asked designer Jose Cabrera to update the look of the bed and the rest of the room. He started with a light, neutral shade for the carpeting, and painted the walls in subtle stripes, using matte and semigloss versions of the same off-white paint. The baseboards and crown molding was painted the same color, to make the room look taller and lighter. For the draperies and bed 's duvet and shams, he chose a strong, ikat-inspired pattern in shades of olive, cream, light sky-blue and persimmon. The pattern and colors are reflected in the mirrored nightstands. A single painting and a leather bench at the end of the bed complete the picture. The overall effect is "light and elegant, but also vibrant," says Cabrera.
