Florida Cruise Guide ship spotlight -- the Bahamas Celebration
Is it a coincidence that the phrase "season's greetings" starts with "sea?" Not if you consider Celebration Cruise Line's sailings to enjoy the holidays aboard its ship, the Bahamas Celebration. Here's what the line has on tap for this season:
-- Sailing with Santa: Every Friday in December, and the entire week of Christmas, Sail With Santa voyages from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas feature breakfast with the jolly old elf himself, plus a free photo with Santa and a free gift from Santa. Prospective guests should ask about Kids Sail Free days (for children ages 12 and under). A festive Christmas cruise sets sail from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas on Dec. 25 (three nights, priced from $189).
-- New Year's Eve: For those who would like to ring in 2010 at sea? Bahamas Celebration features a voyage on Dec. 31 (rates from $199).
-- Holiday "Thank-you" Gifts from the Celebration Cruise Line: Several cruises in November and December are priced at $99 for a category 5 interior cabin on a two-night cruise; and at $149 for a category 5 interior cabin on a three-night cruise (these are not entry level cabins). Additionally, anyone booking a new cruise and sailing by Dec. 22, will receive a second comparable cruise for free to enjoy in 2010 in other words, two cruises for the price of one at the going cruise rate. This is Celebration Cruise Line's Holiday Thank-you Gift Promotion to celebrate its successful first year in business. The second cruise can be used any time between Aug. 23 and Dec. 17, 2010.
Built in 1981 and refurbished in 2009 when she became the Bahamas Celebration, the ship is a 35,855-ton vessel with capacity for 1,551 passengers. Registered in the Bahamas, the crew is international. The ship offers year-round two- and three-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale and features cruise and resort packages with stays at Atlantis on Paradise Island.
Onboard amenities include three dining options (an American restaurant, Brazilian-style steakhouse and buffet, and Italian restaurant) that are all included in the cruise fare. An alternative restaurant, The Cove, is available at an extra fee ($25 per person) and ideal for celebrations and special occasions. Other amenities include a showroom, varied lounges, two pool areas, spa and salon, gym, a casino and age-specific children's programs.
