Part-time lifeguard, Eric Holt, jumps off the Main Street pier in Daytona Beach. Lifeguards (present and veteran) gathered for the third annual "jumping off the Main Street pier" event to celebrate their lifesaving profession. "This goes back many years to when the lifeguards had their weekly mass drill and all of the guards had to report to the Daytona Beach station, jump off the pier and then swim three-quarters of a mile," said John Upchurch, a Volusia County lifeguard from 1986-1992. "It was a weekly competition for every lifeguard on duty that day to participate in this mass drill. This is a chance for the old lifeguards to get together for a day of fun and reminiscing about old times."
