Under the looking glass

The ins and outs of espionage were not confined to those neophytes investigating the NBA in Central Florida in 1989. Spy novels were a big read. Tom Clancy's 4th installment in the Jack Ryan series, Clear and Present Danger, topped the bestseller list. It's being investigated by Orlando's Keith Bogans. Some books were not quite as popular, as Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini put a $2.1 million pricetag earlier in the year on British author Salman Rushdie's head, saying that Rushdie's novel, The Satanic Verses, was blasphemous.
