HOW HE CAME TO ORLANDO: Traded by the Denver Nuggets in the four-team, 12-player deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers on Aug. 10, 2012.


SCOUTING REPORT: Driven by an intense work ethic, Afflalo has improved his game dramatically since his rookie season with the Detroit Pistons. He is an excellent outside shooter; in his first five seasons, he made almost 41 percent of his 3-point attempts. He also is a highly regarded defender, although some analysts believe he regressed on that end of the floor in 2011-12. Afflalo tried to improve his stamina during the 2012 offseason; he sometimes ran up to five miles a day.


ODDS & ENDS: Afflalo’s last name is pronounced ah-FLAH-low. . . He grew up in the Los Angeles area. . . . He played in the now legendary 2004 McDonald’s All-American Game that featured 21 other future NBA players, including Howard, Glen Davis, LaMarcus Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo, J.R.
