What can moviegoers expect from the sex scenes in "Fifty Shades of Grey"?
Author E.L. James provided a cryptic preview for NBC's "Today" on Friday. "It's happening," James told Natalie Morales. "I haven't seen it particularly watered down. I thought it was interesting, and that's all I'll say about that," she added, dramatically fanning herself.
The lead actors highlighted the work that goes into staging those sex scenes.
"It's more like a dance. It's like acrobatics," said Dakota Johnson, who plays college student Anastasia Steele.
"Sexual acrobatics," added Jamie Dornan, who plays business magnate Christian Grey.
"Yep," Johnson agreed.
Morales noted that the "Fifty Shades" book trilogy has sold more than 100 million copies. NBC's promotion of the movie, which comes out in February, should boost sales. The report certainly will bring new attention to Dornan, who was dubbed "the golden torso" when he was a model, and Johnson, who is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.
"Today" started the promotion rolling Thursday by premiering part of the erotic movie trailer, then offered Morales' visit to the movie set on Friday. Author James predicted people would be "pleasantly surprised" by the movie. (NBC and Universal, the studio releasing the movie, are both part of NBCUniversal.)
NBC is offering a history in movie sex on Friday. "NBC Nightly News" celebrates the 25th history of "When Harry Met Sally." Kevin Tibbles talks to Billy Crystal and visits Katz Deli, the location of the classic "I'll have what she's having" scene. You remember Meg Ryan's faked orgasm, don't you?
With "Fifty Shades of Grey," we're a long way from Katz Deli.
