Biketoberfest provides a bounty of photo opportunities

BiketoberfestBike Week

I have been photographing Bike Week and Biketoberfest for a number of years. While the event offers a bounty of great photo opportunities, I usually approach it the same way.

This year I decided to experiment and try something new. I rarely use flash in my photography, so I put that little magic light maker on my camera and went to work. I zoomed in the flash and went for harshly lit street portraits of the people, animals and “others” roaming along Main Street in Daytona Beach for the first day of Biketoberfest.

Blasting people in the face with a burst of light definitely was a different approach for me as I usually like to blend in the crowd and quietly snap frames unnoticed. Sometimes it is fun to break from the norm and try something new, and now I know what that rectangular thing in my camera bag does.
