Gaylord Palms resort will say "Merry Madagascar" to guests for its ICE! exhibit this year.
Elaborately carved, colorful ice pieces, created by Chinese artisans, will reconstruct the story of "Merry Madagascar," an animated short released by DreamWorks Animation in 2009. The plot involves Santa Claus crashing onto the island of Madagascar on Christmas Eve, resulting in animals taking over his global route.
The theme was announced Wednesday on the edge of Gaylord's new Cypress Springs water park area. On hand were costumed characters, a quartet in shorts and Santa hats wading in the pool and an appearance by rapper Vanilla Ice.
Gaylord's ICE! meets Vanilla Ice, get it? The human Ice (real name: Robert Van Winkle) performed his hip-hop hit "Ice Ice Baby" while members of the Boys & Girls Club danced on stage.
It's the second year that ICE! has been tied to DreamWorks properties. Last year, "Shrek the Halls," with lots of green ogre types, was presented. The hotel has additional DreamWorks-based activities, including some tied to the holiday season.
ICE! featuring "Merry Madagascar" runs daily from Nov. 10, 2012, to Jan. 1, 2013. Tickets range from $25.99 to $27.99, depending on date, for adults. Kids' tickets (for ages 4-11) at $13.99. Tickets are now on sale.
