HOW HE CAME TO ORLANDO: Traded by the New Orleans Hornets in a sign-and-trade deal for power forward Ryan Anderson on July 11, 2012.
SCOUTING REPORT: Ayón is still developing and getting acclimated to the NBA game. He has size, athleticism and a nose for the ball. He averaged 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as a rookie. He can score around the basket; he made almost 54 percent of his shots last season. He needs to improve at the free-throw line after making around 62 percent of his attempts with the Hornets.
ODDS & ENDS: Ayón is the third Mexican-born player to play in the NBA. Horacio Llamas and Eduardo Najera are the others. . . . He was offered a scholarship to play college basketball at San Jose State, but he decided to remain in Mexico. . . . He played professionally in Mexico and Venezuela before joining the top division in Spain. He was signed by the Hornets in the winter of 2011.
