If you've stared at the new rendering for Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter -- Diagon Alley, you probably noted a dragon, a fire-breathing one, perched atop what looks like the Gringbotts Wizarding Bank, high above the tourists visiting the upcoming London section of Universal Studios.
One of our burning questions about Diagon Alley, which Universal just announced will open in 2014, was is the dragon going to be there or is that poetic license? After all, it's a promotional piece of art, not a blueprint of exacting nature. For instance, there's not really a forest and rolling hills between Universal Studios and the neighboring Islands of Adventure, home of the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
We quoted an insider who had a source who said yes and yes to "really in the park?" and "Really fire-breathing?" We receiving a response overnight from Universal Orlando. It says:
"We wanted the rendering to be a good representation of what our guests will be able to experience within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. But you’ll have to wait for more details."
Clear? I'd say that just like the last round of Potterwatch, details will come slowly. Universal does have a couple of other things on its plate: Transformers: The Ride -- 3D in June, Halloween Horror Nights returning in September and the construction of hotel number four, Cabana Bay Beach Resort, also opening in 2014.
