HEDO TURKOGLU, SMALL FORWARD
HT: 6-10 WT: 220 COLLEGE: None
AGE: Turns 34 on March 19, 2013.
NBA SEASONS: 2012-13 is his 13th.
TWITTER HANDLE: @hidoturkoglu15
HOW HE CAME TO ORLANDO: Traded from the Phoenix Suns with Earl Clark and Jason Richardson for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, a 2012-first-round pick and cash on Dec. 18, 2010.
SCOUTING REPORT: Turkoglu’s name was bandied about in the Dwight Howard trade talks at times, but the Magic couldn’t move him after rejecting a deal with the Brooklyn Nets. His game has been in decline as he ages. He could come off the bench if rookie Maurice Harkless develops as a small forward, perhaps toward the end of the season as the Magic try to position themselves for a high lottery pick. Last season Turk averaged 10.9 points and shot just 41.5 percent, including 35 percent from 3-point range, his lowest percentage since his rookie season of 2000-01. He is still one of the club’ s best playmakers, and a versatile player at 6-10.
ODDS & ENDS: Turk’s first love growing up was soccer until he was noticed by a coach in Turkey. . . . He might be inspired this season after ESPN ranked him as the NBA’s 192nd best player; he was ranked 153rd the previous season.
