Two weeks before you close: • Contact your mortgage lender(s) and get the proper paperwork for paying off the outstanding balance with the proceeds of the sale. • Contact your property insurer to close out the policy. • Touch base with your agent or real estate lawyer to confirm that there are no complications with the title. Find out if you actually have to attend the closing or if you can take care of your paperwork in advance. • Ensure that the buyer is on track to close as agreed. • Arrange child and pet care for the day of the closing. • Keep all key documents in a portable lock box, and move them by hand so they are not inadvertently packed or stored.
