Legoland Florida will expand again this summer, introducing an area called the World of Chima, based on a Lego product line with tribes of mystical animal warriors, theme park officials announced Tuesday morning.
The new land will feature an interactive water ride called the Quest for Chi and the fast-paced Speedorz Arena where players compete and build from Lego's Speedorz line. the park will also show a new movie called "Lego Chima 4D Movie Xperience." The area will be presented by Cartoon Network, which is prepping an animated TV series based on the popular Legends of Chima product line. Legoland Florida, the largest of the five Legolands in the world, is the first to have a dedicated Chima presence.
“This is the first time a theme park has invested in a major expansion concurrently with the rollout of a new brand and product line, and it was an easy decision based on how well Lego Legends of Chima has been received by children and those who are young at heart around the world,” Legoland Florida General Manager Adrian Jones said.
During the Quest for Chi water ride, guests join the Lion Tribe, which is working to recover stolen chi orbs, a source of energy. They will board watercraft and use water cannons to help Laval the Lion Prince defeat Cragger the Crocodile King. The Laval and Cragger characters also will be doing daily meet-and-greets in the Winter Haven theme park.
The Chima expansion will create 150 construction jobs and eventually add about 50 jobs to the Legoland work force, the company said.
Legoland Florida opened on the site of Cypress Gardens in October 2011. Since then, it has added a water park and a Miniland devoted to the "Star Wars" franchise.
