Cutinha was born in Fernandina Beach on January 13, 1945 and graduated from Yulee High School, according to Florida Memory's web site. He entered service at Coral Gables March 1, 1967 and was assigned to 3rd Training Brigade and sent to Vietnam as a replacement in Company C, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry, 25th Division, in September 1967. On a combat mission near Gia Dinh, he provided machinegun cover for his company until mortally wounded, saving the lives of at least 9 members of his unit. He is interred at Fort Denaud Cemetery, Fort Denaud.
