Rosie Ruiz, marathon runner: In April of 1980, Ruiz was the first female runner to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon. Only one problem: She had only run about a mile of the famed 26 miles, joining the race while it was in progress. She was disqualified, but to this day, Ruiz maintains she won. She qualified for Boston after 'running' in the New York Marathon, where it was revealed she took a shortcut by riding the subway.
