( January 15, 2013 ) Chicago White Sox 1919, baseball: Better known as the Black Sox, the American League champions lost to the Cincinnati Reds after eight players on the team allegedly took money from gamblers to throw the series. All criminal charges against the players were eventually dropped and the true depth of the scandal has never been determined but the effect on their careers (they were banned from baseball for life) and the league was forever changed. |
