Comic-Con: Thursday highlights

As we get closer to Comic-Con International: San Diego, happening July 23 to 27 details about panels, events and celebrity appearances are starting to come out.

Here’s a look at highlights from the convention’s first official day.

In Hall H

Dreamworks Animation: Preview upcoming projects from this animation studio. Celebrity guests include Benedict Cumberbatch’s first, ever trip to the Con to promote “The Penguins of Madagascar.” At 11:30 a.m.

“The Giver:” The Weinstein Company brings this Utopian novel to the big screen. See exclusive footage with stars Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Odeya Rush, director Phillip Noyce, and author Lois Lowry. At 1:30 p.m.

Paramount Pictures: The movie studio showcases its upcoming releases. Films to be announced but possible titles may include “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Paranormal Activity 5” and “Interstellar.” At 3 p.m.

Entertainment Weekly: The Visionaries: High-profile directors chat about movie making, working with movie stars and the business of Hollywood. Names to be announced, last year’s panel featured Alfonso Cuaron, Marc Webb and Edgar Wright. At 4:30 p.m.

Batman ‘66: Warner Bros. reunites pop icons Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar for a look at “Batman: The Complete TV Series,” scheduled to be released in November. At 6 p.m.

In Ballroom 20

“24:” Kiefer Sutherland takes the stage to celebrate “24’s” most iconic moments plus highlights of Jack Bauer’s return in “24: Live Another Day.” At 10 a.m.

“Scorpion:” See the world premiere screening of the upcoming CBS drama about a man with the fourth-highest IQ. It’s followed with a panel discussion with the real-life Walter O’Brien, and stars Elyes Gabel, Robert Patrick, and Katharine McPhee. At 12:05 p.m.

Greendale Forever: TV Guide Magazine’s Tribute to Community: The beloved cult show will be celebrated with “Community” creator Dan Harmon and members of the cast. At 2:15 p.m.

Hannibal: Embrace the Madness: The panel for this TV series includes stars Caroline Dhavernas, Scott Thompson and Aaron Abrams. At 4:45 p.m.

Showtime: Penny Dreadful: Showtime’s monsterous series features a panel with creator and showrunner John Logan, along with Josh Hartnett, Reeve Carney and Harry Treadaway The panel will be moderated by Aisha Tyler. At 6 p.m.

In the Indigo Ballroom

Legends of TV Land: Betty White at the Con! She’ll be on a panel with other stars from the TV Land network. At 10:30 a.m.

Sony Pictures Entertainment: Jack Black will discuss the upcoming “Goosebumps” movie series. Director Chris Columbus will make a video announcement about his upcoming film “Pixels,” starring Adam Sandler. At 12:30 p.m.

Comedy Central: A look at upcoming Comedy Central projects with Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Scott Gairdner and Rob Lowe. At 1:30 p.m.

George R. R. Martin: The bestselling author discusses his novels, projects, and the new “In the House of the Worm” comic book series. At 4 p.m.

Goonies Never Say Die: “Goonies”cast members reunite and discuss a possibility of a sequel. Surprise guests promised. At 6 p.m.

Additional highlights

The Legacy and Return of Battlestar Galactica: Richard Hatch , Jamie Bamber and Dr. Kevin Grazier host a discussion on the upcoming “Battlestar Galactica” movie Expect surprise guests and movie previews. 10:30 a.m. in Room 6BCF.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Sing-Along: A Con tradition! Sing along to the internet sensation musical. There will be a horrible costume contest with horrible prizes in four categories. Best Dr. Horrible, Captain Hammer, Penny, and other character from the show. At 8:30 p.m. in Room 6BCF

Mattel and WWE: Over-the-Top-Action! WWE Superstars Hulk Hogan, Daniel Bryan, Michael Cole, Paul Heymanand and Mattel designers will give exclusive sneak peeks of Mattel’s upcoming WWE figures. 10:15 a.m. in Room 6DE

Meet Bill Plympton: “The King of Indie Animation” will discuss his new animated feature, “Cheatin’.” Noon in Room 23ABC
