Month in review: Hottest stories of May

Share

San Diego might be known as the laidback, notoriously chill city of SoCal, but the amount of weekend festivals, updates in the food and bar scene, nightlife happenings and constant activities say otherwise.

To keep it all straight, here’s a breakdown of some of the month’s biggest news in San Diego’s lifestyle and entertainment scene.

Eat and Drink

Park & Rec opened doors last week, introducing University Heights to a patio-style bar from industry veteran John Pani (Waypoint Public) featuring craft cocktails from beverage masters Trevor Easter and Anthony Schmidt. It’s communal and cool, a spot to sip outdoors in what feels like your hippest friend’s backyard. Guests can kick back with shuffle board, darts and more casual games, plus indulge in “Sunday Day Camp,” a weekend brunch with live entertainment. (4612 Park Blvd., University Heights)

Green Flash Brewing Co. also just debuted their second regional craft beer facility, Cellar 3, in Poway. The 12,000 square foot space serves as a packaging facility and tasting room with over 30 barrel-aged beers. (Cellar 3, 12260 Crosthwaite Circle, Poway)

The Skyline Collection includes guestrooms, suites and penthouses designed by Theresa Fatino Design. Each new room has surfboard-themed headboards, surf art and marine-colored tie-dye fabrics with views of San Diego Bay and Coronado Island. To pair, new entertainment will take place on the hotel’s rooftop lounge, SummerSalt, including poolside brunches on weekends with live music. (1047 Fifth Ave., downtown)
