Joppatowne's Thori Staples Bryan - isn't just one of Harford's Greatest Athletes, she's in the discussion for being the county's best female athlete ever. Staples is a world class women's soccer player who excelled at Joppatowne High and North Carolina State and was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team from 1993-2003, a member of the U.S. World Cup team in 1995 and an alternate for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1996. At NC State, Staples Bryan was a four-time all-conference selection and a three-time first team All-American. She played professionally for the San Jose CyberRays of the Women's United Soccer Association. At JHS, Staples Bryan was a state champion hurdler in track and a gold medalist in the heptathlon in the 1991 and 1992 National AAU Junior Olympics.
