Howard Stampede field hockey wins U16 MLK Champions of Tomorrow Tournament

Field hockey

The Howard Stampede Field Hockey Club won the U16 division of the MLK Champions of Tomorrow Tournament held Jan. 20 in Rockville. Howard Stampede had three wins and one tie to come in first place in their bracket and advance to the finals against SPark. With an aggressive offense and a relentless defense, Stampede defeated SPark in the championship game, 4-1.

Running

There were 78 runners on hand for the Howard County Striders winter series race at Northfield Elementary Jan. 27. Brooks Ward and Kendra Smith were the 5k winners.

Good Sports Awards

The Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks' Sports Alliance Dennis Callahan "Good Sports" Award recipients have been announced. The honorees from Howard County are Jim Hulbert (administrator), Mason Rogers (athlete) and Malissa Spiropoulos (coach).

The selected individuals will be recognized at a special reception and awards ceremony in Annapolis on Feb. 4.
