Strike up the orchestra
The Columbia Orchestra will hold auditions for musicians Sun., Aug. 14, 1-5 p.m., and Mon., Aug. 15, 7-10 p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church (6800 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia). The volunteer community orchestra is seeking permanent positions for contra bassoon and all string instruments, plus substitutes for its woodwind, brass and percussion players. Sing with the Pros
Columbia Pro Cantare is beginning auditions for all parts for its 35th anniversary season, which commences in October. Regular rehearsals begin Sept. 6 and are held every Tuesday at Hammond High School, 7:30-10 p.m. This season the group will perform music by Haydn, Handel and area composer Tom Benjamin.
