Pianist Brian Ganz will return to his hometown of Columbia to once again perform at the Sundays at Three chamber music concert series this Sunday, Nov. 6, p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 6800 Oakland Mills Road.
Ganz is now based in Annapolis and regularly performs all over the world and earlier this year performed works by Chopin in that composer's homeland, Poland. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, where he studied under Leon Fleisher. He's currently a member of that school's faculty and is also a member of the faculty at St. Mary's College of Maryland.
For his Columbia performance, Ganz will perform more Chopin in the form of the composer's "Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61," "Ballade No. 3 in A-flat major, Op. 47" and "4 Mazurkas, Op. 6," which includes works in four separate keys.
Also on the bill will be a rendition of Beethoven's "Sonata in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 2," Ravel's "Jeux d'Eau," Debussy's "Reflets Dans l'Eau (from Images)" and Franz Liszt's "Consolation No. 3 in D-flat Major."

The music department at Howard Community College will host a Music Faculty Gala Saturday, Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m., in the Monteabaro Recital Hall. Faculty members will perform works by Mozart, Léo Delibes, Giacomo Puccini, Erik Satie, Jenö Takács, J. Fred Coots and Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Fahey by Chance
Rob Fahey of the Rayvns will perform Fri., Nov. 4, 9 p.m., at the Second Chance Saloon (Columbia, 410-545-5844). Fahey is best known for writing the hit rock song "Raised on the Radio," which was featured on the soundtrack of the 1982 film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
