Carols by Candlelight returns for its 28th year at 8 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

This annual concert, which raises money for Rady Children’s Hospital, will feature performances by Lonestar, Brandy Clark, Charlie Worsham, Anna Vaus and co-founder Steve Vaus.

Tickets for the concert range from $19 to $68 and are available at CarolsByCandlelight.com.

Headlining the show will be the country band Lonestar. The band has sold over 10 million units nationally since their debut in 1995 and have had 10 No. 1 hits, including “No News,” “Come Crying To Me” and “Amazed.”

Lonestar has performed at Carols by Candlelight previously, with Vaus calling them “the most popular artist we’ve had in the past 10-to-12 years.”

Brandy Clark will also be returning to Carols by Candlelight this year. The 2014 Country Music Association Award winner and six-time Grammy nominee has written hits for artists like Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert.

Also performing this year is country musician Charlie Worsham. Worsham has been compared to a young Keith Urban and has recently toured with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. He will hit the road with Miranda Lambert in early 2018.

Anna Vaus, who has performed numerous times at the concert in the past, returns from her career in Nashville to sing once again. Vaus signed a publishing deal with Black River Entertainment and in 2016 was selected as the first recipient of the Miranda Lambert Women Creators Fund.

Her father, a Grammy-award winner and four-time Grammy nominee, founded the concert in 1990 with Wayne Nelson. It began as a free concert in Horton Plaza and, as it outgrew its original location, moved to the Poway Center for the Performing Arts and then to its current home at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

The concert always finishes with a candlelight performance of “Silent Night” in the courtyard.

The event will also include a live and silent auction, with items that include guitars signed by James Taylor and Brad Paisley.

One new item up for auction this year is the chance for the winner to come on stage during the final song, when all the artists gather to since “Go Tell it On The Mountain” as snow falls, and sing along. “It’s not every day you get to stand on stage with Lonestar and Brandy Clark and sing, or at least mouth the words,” said Vaus.

Vaus said that last year event raised over $50,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital and he foresees it passing that number this year. “Oh, we’re going to top that this year, no problem,” he said.

“It’s always an amazing event that takes on a life of its own,” said Vaus. “The audience comes with excitement and warmth in their hearts and leave with even more excitement and their hearts expanded.”
