The San Diego Folk Heritage presents the Sara Petite Band in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Templar’s Hall in Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road.

San Diego-based musician Petite will perform an acoustic show, which will feature a variety of music from her five albums, as well as some as-yet recorded songs, she said.

Described in her website biography as “a gritty Pollyanna, Minnie Pearl-type Bruce Springsteen rocker with an outlaw-classic country style,” Petite has been releasing albums since 2006 and is a four-time winner of San Diego’s Best Country/Americana Band, was a Grand Prize winner of Portland’s Songwriting Contest and a San Diego Songwriting Contest winner.

Petite said she is a songwriter who tells stories, ranging from family stories to heartbreak and more. Her musical influences range from old-time bluegrass to rock and roll, she added.

While Petite has not performed for the San Diego Folk Heritage in several years, she said she is looking forward to it, as her last time was “a nice little concert” and the venue is great. Petite has also performed several times over the years at the Poway Library as part of its acoustic concert series.

“I love having a band and playing rock and roll, but I also love having gigs where it’s like going into Grandma’s living room,” Petite said of her acoustic shows. “I love doing music and I love playing.”

Petite and her band recently began recording a new album, a process halted abruptly with the June 20 death of producer David Bianco. Bianco was a Grammy-award winning producer who worked with artists like Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Fleetwood Mac, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC and more.

“Recording with him was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” said Petite, who recorded one of several planned songs with Bianco before his death. “It was amazing. He was an incredible person and an incredible producer.”

Bianco heard Petite’s music on Spotify and contacted her, wanting to work with her, she said.

Petite said plans for continuing recording the album are currently “up in the air” and while they have a lot of songs, she and her bandmates need to figure out where to go from here. “We’re definitely recording in the future, we’re just not sure what the game plan is yet,” she said.

Tickets for the show are $18, $15 for members of the San Diego Folk Heritage, and are available at the door or in advance at TicketWeb.com. For a preview of Petite’s music, visit sarapetite.com.
