Poway Days Parade sponsors sought

Organizers of this September’s annual Poway Days Parade are looking for sponsors to help underwrite the costs of the event.

A letter recently mailed to past supporters by the Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps said the club has less than $1,000 in its parade account and “we cannot continue the parade this year without your help.”

The 54th annual edition of the parade is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8 on Poway Road. The parade traditionally kicks off three weekends of activities that culminate with the Poway Rodeo.

In May the Rotary club announced “Be the Inspiration” as parade theme and that former San Diego Police Chief Shelly Zimmerman would be the grand marshal. The parade typically attracts about 100 entries of floats, marching bands, equestrian units and youth groups. The Rotary club has sponsored it since 2013.

Sponsor support is being solicited by the non-profit Poway Rotary Foundation. A $10,000 title sponsorship is available, along with those costing $2,500, $1,000, $500, $250 and $100. For more information or to purchase a sponsorship, visit the parade website at powaydaysparade.org.

“It’s a truly wonderful, good old-fashioned parade,” past club President Pauline Getz said. “Besides delighting the more than 10,000 participants it attracts, the parade serves as the club’s largest annual fundraiser to generate money for community service projects after the considerable parade expenses are satisfied”.

The Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps meets for lunch at noon each Wednesday at Mainstream Bar & Grill. Guests and prospective members are welcome.
