Car fire sparks blaze near Santa Ysabel

Firefighters tackled a brush fire that started after a car caught fire on the side of state Route 79 near Santa Ysabel on Saturday.

California Highway Patrol dispatchers received word of a car fully engulfed in flames on Route 79 near the Santa Ysabel Mission just before 11:20 a.m.

Flames spread to nearby vegetation, and firefighters headed to the scene and stopped the spread of the fire at two acres, said Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez.

Officers conducted one-way traffic control in the area while firefighters mopped up the blaze, according to a CHP incident log.
