No more nightcrawling here for Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal, who stars in the recently released thriller “Nightcrawler,” has parted with his gated compound in Hollywood Hills for $3,262,500.
The single-story home, built in 1948, sits on nearly two acres with expanses of lawn, mature trees, a swimming pool and a detached office. There are canyon, mountain and cityscape views.
The 2,826 square feet of living space, crowned by vaulted beamed ceilings, includes a central hall, a den, a family room, three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Gyllenhaal, 33, has starred in such films as “Source Code” (2011), “Zodiac” (2007) and “Brokeback Mountain” (2005). He will be in the upcoming films “Nailed,” “Southpaw” and “Everest.”
He bought the celebrity-pedigree property in 2005 for $2.5 million. Among the former owners is Michael Balzary, a.k.a. Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Spock’s sale soars above list price
Zachary Quinto, known for his role as Spock in the recent “Star Trek” movies, listed a home in Los Feliz for $1.165 million in September and sold it for $1,278,600.
The Midcentury Modern-style single-story house, built in 1948, has a loft-like vibe with an open floor plan. The 1,505 square feet of space includes living room, a den, three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
A patio with a fire pit sits outside the master bedroom.
Quinto, 37, was in the 2009 and 2013 “Star Trek” films and the series “Heroes” (2006-10) and “American Horror Story” (2011-13).
He will be in the upcoming movies “He’ll Never Have Paris” and “The Girl Who Invented Kissing.”
Quinto bought the property in 2008 for $865,000, property records show.

Actress falls for place in Valley
Actress Missi Pyle, who stars in the comedy “Jennifer Falls,” has bought a home in Sherman Oaks for its asking price of $749,000.
The traditional-style house is centrally located to shops and restaurants and looks out onto the Valley. The open floor plan features two fireplaces, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. A patio and balconies extend the nearly 1,300 square feet of living space outdoors.
Details include hardwood floors, plantation shutters and fireplaces in the living room and den, which opens to the backyard and spa.
Pyle, 42, has more than 20 years of television and films credits, including “Gone Girl” (2014), “The Artist” (2011) and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (2005).
She’ll star with Hank Azaria in the animated film “Bordertown,” due to be released next year. Pyle will also star in the upcoming films “Hollywood Adventures,” “Captain Fantastic” and “Uncle Nick.”
The property previously sold in 2001 for $400,000.

Complete with a lyrical past
The longtime Beverly Hills home of the late songwriter Robert B. Sherman, who helped bring the soundtracks of animated films to life, has come on the market at $9.95 million.
A blend of French provincial and Hollywood Regency styles, the stately two-story house was built in 1924 and later expanded.
The 8,152 square feet of updated open-plan living space includes dining and living rooms, a bar, a bonus room, a den and a breakfast room. A lanai and a covered patio extend the living space outdoors.

The more than half-acre grounds include a swimming pool, lawn and mature trees.
Sherman, who died two years ago at 86, wrote songs for such classic films as “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “The Jungle Book” and “Winnie the Pooh.”
His lifelong songwriting collaborator was his brother, Richard. They won Oscars for the song “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and for the “Mary Poppins” score. They also wrote the song “It’s a Small World (After All),” known to millions as the theme song for the Disneyland ride.

Public records show Liddell bought the nearly half-acre property this year for $1.91 million.
