<p><strong>JERSEY:</strong> Steve Smith, No. 5 (1991-97)</p>
<p><strong>So, I actually don't know "Smith."</strong></p>
<p>[Incredulous) Steve Smith, from the '90s?</p>
<p><strong>Oh my god &ndash; that's a Steve Smith jersey? Wow.</strong></p>
<p>Come on now!</p>
<p><strong>I haven't thought about him in so long. That makes my day. OK, so, give me the story of how, why and when you got the Steve Smith.</strong></p>
<p>I've got a picture hanging up in my house. I was 3 years-old &ndash; no, probably 5 &ndash; wearing this jersey, and it's down to my feet, sitting on the ground, me and my brother, and he's got a <a class="runtimeTopic" href="#" data-topic-id="PESPT004995">Mark Messier</a> jersey on &ndash; we're both sitting there, and we took a picture and we've got it hanging up at the house. It just happened.</p>
<p>My uncle's a big hockey guy, so that's how I got into it. And since I was a little kid he's just been giving me all of his old jerseys. He's got like ten grand worth of hockey jerseys, and he gives me all the old ones. And that's how it happened. So it's a little small now, but it fits. (Laughs.)</p>
<p><strong>You were like 1 or 2 when the Hawks went to the Cup in '92.</strong></p>
<p>Yeah.</p>
<p><strong>So have you gone back and watched Steve Smith tapes or anything?</strong></p>
<p>He was my number one dude when I was younger. You know, they weren't on TV obviously, but we'd be coming here and listening to them on the radio, and every time they brought him up, he was my main man. He got me into to the Hawks, pretty much.</p>
<p><strong>How many Hawks jerseys do you own?</strong></p>
<p>I didn't buy any of them, but I've got probably 20 of them. I've got Hjalmarsson. I got Kane before he was even signed. And that's the two I have of guys on the team. All the other ones are old school.</p>
<p><strong>So if you could only save three jerseys in a fire, four because I'll let you wear one, what would be the four?</strong></p>
<p>I got a <a class="runtimeTopic" href="#" data-topic-id="PESPT007296">Jocelyn Thibault</a> jersey. That's my shit. The Smith jersey, I'll keep it. I've got an Oilers Messier jersey &ndash; he wasn't on the Hawks, but Mark Messier's the man. I've got his Oilers jersey and his all-star jersey. But Hawks-wise, Thibault, Smith, and (pause) I don't know. (Pause.) There's too many! I don't know how to pick. That's a hard question.</p>
<p><strong>Well we'll hope your place doesn't burn down.</strong></p>
<p>Exactly. Exactly. I hope it won't. [Laughs.]</p>
<p><strong>So why did you wear this one tonight?</strong></p>
<p>Everyone's got the same thing. It's like, "Oh, there's Kane, there's Kane, there's Toews, there's Kane, there's Toews, there's Sharp." You gotta stand out in the crowd. You can't rock the same thing as anyone else. This is probably the only one in the building.</p>
<p><strong>We haven't seen any others.</strong></p>
<p>Exactly! No one's rocking Steve Smith on a Friday night at the Hawks game. It's unique. That's why I wore it.</p>

JERSEY: Steve Smith, No. 5 (1991-97)

So, I actually don't know "Smith."

[Incredulous) Steve Smith, from the '90s?

Oh my god – that's a Steve Smith jersey? Wow.

Come on now!

I haven't thought about him in so long. That makes my day. OK, so, give me the story of how, why and when you got the Steve Smith.

I've got a picture hanging up in my house. I was 3 years-old – no, probably 5 – wearing this jersey, and it's down to my feet, sitting on the ground, me and my brother, and he's got a Mark Messier jersey on – we're both sitting there, and we took a picture and we've got it hanging up at the house. It just happened.

My uncle's a big hockey guy, so that's how I got into it. And since I was a little kid he's just been giving me all of his old jerseys. He's got like ten grand worth of hockey jerseys, and he gives me all the old ones. And that's how it happened. So it's a little small now, but it fits. (Laughs.)

You were like 1 or 2 when the Hawks went to the Cup in '92.

Yeah.

So have you gone back and watched Steve Smith tapes or anything?

He was my number one dude when I was younger. You know, they weren't on TV obviously, but we'd be coming here and listening to them on the radio, and every time they brought him up, he was my main man. He got me into to the Hawks, pretty much.

How many Hawks jerseys do you own?

I didn't buy any of them, but I've got probably 20 of them. I've got Hjalmarsson. I got Kane before he was even signed. And that's the two I have of guys on the team. All the other ones are old school.

So if you could only save three jerseys in a fire, four because I'll let you wear one, what would be the four?

I got a Jocelyn Thibault jersey. That's my shit. The Smith jersey, I'll keep it. I've got an Oilers Messier jersey – he wasn't on the Hawks, but Mark Messier's the man. I've got his Oilers jersey and his all-star jersey. But Hawks-wise, Thibault, Smith, and (pause) I don't know. (Pause.) There's too many! I don't know how to pick. That's a hard question.

Well we'll hope your place doesn't burn down.

Exactly. Exactly. I hope it won't. [Laughs.]

So why did you wear this one tonight?

Everyone's got the same thing. It's like, "Oh, there's Kane, there's Kane, there's Toews, there's Kane, there's Toews, there's Sharp." You gotta stand out in the crowd. You can't rock the same thing as anyone else. This is probably the only one in the building.

We haven't seen any others.

Exactly! No one's rocking Steve Smith on a Friday night at the Hawks game. It's unique. That's why I wore it.
