Belmont Cragin on Saturday recorded its eighth homicide of the year, up from two homicides in 2011, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
A 29-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 4900 block of West Diversey Avenue in the Northwest Side community area, police said.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Austin, Englewood, New City, South Deering and Washington Park, RedEye data found. In Avondale, a 39-year-old man was found strangled to death Tuesday in the 3100 block of North Central Park Avenue, police said.
Meanwhile, October ended last week with 39 homicides, down from 48 homicides in October 2011, RedEye determined.
Five homicides have been recorded so far this month. Thirty-nine homicides were logged in November 2011, according to RedEye data.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
