Chicago jazz crew Ben Scholz's Elec-Tet answered our Chi-Tunes questionnaire. Do the same and your band could appear in RedEye!
What makes your live show great?
We play jazz in a style that was popular in the 70s and 80s. Most jazz groups in Chicago lionize the roaring 20s, but people also like to groove to a good jam.
Describe your sound in five words or less.
Hard-hitting jazz fusion.
Tell us something random about the band, and why that's significant.
We were in the studio during a rainstorm and the roof started leaking. Our piano player was sitting in about a half inch of water and we were afraid of getting of getting electrocuted. Nevertheless we worked through it, and he played his ass off.
Who would you want to work with, and who would you never work with? Why?
Would: Herbie Hancock, Phish, Soul-live, any group that likes to play funky.
Wouldn't: Anyone who doesn't put on a good show. If people are going to pay good money to see you they deserve quality entertainment.
If the band was a breakfast cereal, what would it be and why?
I don't know, but it wouldn't be Wheaties. None of us will ever get our pictures on that box.
What's the best album you've heard recently?
Herbie Hancock "Headhunters"
What song do you never want to hear again?
What is Chicago's best music venue and why?
The Jazz Showcase. It's the only jazz venue that brings in national acts every week and it's been around since 1947. How many places can say that?
