Former the Academy Is ... singer William Beckett releases his debut solo EP "Walk the Talk" today. The Barrington resident was kind enough to stop by the RedEye offices and perform an acoustic version of the first single, "Compromising Me," as well as sit down for an interview with yours truly.
We'll leave you in suspense for our chat until closer to Beckett's May 29 show at Schubas. For now, enjoy a solid version of an excellent tune. OK, here's a small snippet of the interview to tide you over:
On releasing a few songs at time (Beckett will release two other EPs this year, in July and October): "Every record, even my favorite records ever, there’s like four songs I skip. And there’s always my favorite five songs and I stick to my guns, and they are still my favorite records. Like that first Third Eye Blind record, the front half of that record is really incredible and then I feel like there’s certain songs that I would skip. Even “Houses of the Holy” there’s a song or two that just don’t do it for me. This approach, I’m able to pretty much cut those tracks out. I’ve done it with my band, and it’s just the worst experience ever where you have to put a song on that someone in a suit thinks is potentially more of a hit than the one that means a lot to you, but it’s not as safe sounding.”Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
