New City and Woodlawn each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Saturday in Woodlawn, a man was shot to death in the 6200 block of South Rhodes Avenue and a 28-year-old woman was fatally shot in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said.
Woodlawn has recorded 10 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area logged 13 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
In New City, two 20-year-old men were shot to death May 10 in the 5300 block of South Hoyne Avenue, officials said.
New City has logged seven homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 15 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Ashburn, Auburn Gresham, Lakeview, the Near West Side, Portage Park, Roseland, South Lawndale and West Town, RedEye data found.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man was stabbed to death Tuesday in the 3000 block of East 87th Street in South Chicago, officials said.
Twenty-four homicides have been recorded so far this month. Thirty-nine homicides were logged in May 2011, according to RedEye data.
