"I've been asking for two years," Wesley said at San Diego Comic-Con. "I think they just wanted to shut me up."
At the end of Season 2, Stefan made a deal with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), a powerful original vampire: Stefan would accompany the evil Klaus on a worldwide bloodsucking spree if Klaus spared the life of his human girlfriend, Elena (Nina Dobrev). As the new season opens, Stefan and Klaus has skipped town, leaving Elena to celebrate her 18th birthday with Stefan's brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), who also loves Elena.
The situation leaves Damon, who isn't the nicest guy in the world of undead beings, "stuck in the role he hates the most, which is, "I have to be the hero, this blows," executive producer Julie Plec said.
It's a big change-up for the two characters and the actors who play them. But Wesley, for one, is excited about the possibilities for Stefan, who becomes a feared "ripper" as he drinks more human blood straight from the tap, so to speak.
"I think he's going to become a guy that we¹ve never seen," he said. "For a guy that we all loved who was so noble and so heroic, I think for him to become literally the antithesis of that is going to be kind of shocking [for viewers]."
It's also fun to play a baddie, he said.
"It's like being drunk and making a fool out of yourself [without worrying about the consequences]," he said.
"It's a little easier. I hate to say it, but I mean, you¹re not crying all the time."
What else can we expect? (I'm totally guessing.)
- Damon and Elena might hook up.
- Vampire Caroline (Candice Accola) and teen wolf Tyler (Michael Trevino) will hook up.
- Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is being visited by his two dead vampire ex-girlfriends, Anna (Malese Jow) and Vicki (Kayla Ewell), which will test his relationship with current gal pal and witch Bonnie (Kat Graham).
