The Destiny crew cannot contact Earth since the Lucian Alliance attacked Homeworld Command, which puts Dale Volker in danger in "Hope" (9 p.m. March 28, Syfy).
T.J. (Alaina Huffman) discovers that Volker (Patrick Gilmore) is fatally ill, but without being able to have an expert from Earth switch places with a crew member to help her, she must attempt to save him herself--with an assist from Lt. Greer (Jamil Walker Smith).
"It's actually a very touching episode," said Brian J. Smith, who plays Matthew Scott. "My two favorite things about it are Patrick and Jamil. They've got a lot of really great stuff to do."
"There is actually a scene in this that I think is the funniest scene that we've ever shot," he added. "It's with a really great moment where Peter Kelamis tries to comfort Patrick Gilmore's character with some music and it goes wrong. It's really funny."
The clip above shows Volker and Brody arguing about the theme of "2001: A Space Odyssey." I believe it sets up the later scene Smith is talking about.
Finally, something goes a little wonky with the communication stones in the episode, which is hinted at in the sneak peek as well.
"We have a few unexpected guests arrive through the communication stones," Smith said.
