Whenever Pope Alexander VI needs something nasty handled in Showtime's "The Borgias," he turns to his son, Cesare Borgia. If Cesare doesn't choose to handle the dirty deed himself, he relies on his hit man of sorts, Micheletto.
In the series third season, the Borgias may meet their match.
"The main threat to the family in Season 3 is Caterina Sforza and her own assassin," says series star Francois Arnaud, who plays Cesare, in this preview supplied exclusively to Show Patrol. It will air Sunday night on Showtime.
The assassin hired by Caterina Sforza (Gina Mckee) is Rufio, who has the rather foreboding nickname the Dark Shadow. Danish actor Thure Lindhardt says his character is "not really afraid of anything."
"Today Rufio would be the man whispering in the president's ear," Lindhardt says in the video. "He's very passionate about getting rid of [the Borgia family]."
Micheletto (Sean Harris) better sharpen all his blades.
Created by Neil Jordan, "The Borgias" follows the ambitious and corrupt Pope Alexander VI and his family, including son Cesare and daughter Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger), as they wade through religious and political troubles that often are of their own making.
Below is a previously released teaser called "A New Pope" that focuses on Jeremy Irons Pope Alexander VI, formerly known as Rodrigo Borgia. He'd be the reason Caterina Sforza hates the Borgias.
"The Borgias" returns at 9 p.m. April 14 on Showtime.
