Tumblr Thursday has been coming to you in the paper for awhile now, so it seemed like about time that this list make its way to the Internet, for your convenience, of course. Some of these are a little old hat now, but they're all important to remember.
I could not be more proud of finding this Tumblr. It's just juxtapositions of vintage pinup girl photos and illustrations with photos of cats striking the same poses. You will laugh and laugh and laugh, or I owe you $5.
Because you're not the only moron who has missed a high five.
...that Dec. 12, 2012 is the last repetitive date we will ever see. This and more startling information provided by the You Just Realized Tumblr.
It's an important question, really. Another important question: Why in the hell would someone take it upon himself to Photoshop Adele's face onto screenshots of Robin Williams from the 1993 film "Mrs. Doubtfire"? I don't know, but may God bless him.
The "Star Trek" alum doesn't disappoint, and it may even be, dare I say, better than his Facebook page?
A lot of the posts created with quick memes--success kid, bad luck Brian, drunk baby--fall pretty flat, but every once in a while this Tumblr lands a good one.
Finally Movemeber is over, and we get the sexy beards back, thanks.
This Tumblr dedicated to Michael Kors many metaphors heard on "Project Runway" is great. It's like jumping into a pool of Coca Cola and rolling yourself into a sticky cotton candy cocoon.
Sorry, there aren't really any photos of Petraeus' affair with biographer Paula Broadwell here. This Tumblr is simply mocking the media and all interested parties by posting Petraeus affair headlines with photos of the East Coast devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. Feel bad, yet?
Speaking of Sandy, the well-known Tumblr featuring street portraits of everyday New York residents launched an IndieGoGo fundraiser to support victims of Sandy destruction by sharing their stories on Humans of New York. Tumblr stepped in to help co-sponsor the fundraiser, and proceeds have passed the $160,000 mark in just under four days. (The goal was $100,000.)
It's an oldie, but a goodie.
This one comes from RedEye nightlife reporter Kate Bernot, whose suggestions for Tumblr Thursday make their way in enough to justify a "Kate's Pick" inclusion every week. The photos on this Tumblr are safe for work, despite having "porn" in the title.
WWE on Tumblr
Thanks for showing up to 2012, World Wrestling Entertainment. The organization announced a Tumblr partnership that brings fans GIFs, infographics, Q&As and more.
Happy 30th, Metro! The iconic Chicago venue has been celebrating its birthday all year and has a Tumblr archive of found materials, ticket stubs, footage, stories from staffers and more that will surely send you down a Tumblr black hole.
Mrs. Jay-Z is all about social media lately. She joined Instagram on Election Day and then posted a handwritten letter to President Obama on her Tumblr. I bet it's the new bangs. Everyone with bangs loves Instagram and Tumblr.
Comic relief is always appreciated during a natural disaster like the one East Coasters experienced. This Tumblr pays homage to the incredibly animated and entertaining faces made by the sign language interpreter for New York City's Mayor Bloomberg. Girl was working overtime the past couple of days.
This sadly came very much in handy during Hurricane Sandy chaos stirred up by Twitter rumors earlier this week. Consider it a public service Tumblr for...the Internet.
In case you missed it, a gaggle of media sites based out of New York City lost power to their servers during the worst of the storm--and most of them were resourceful enough to redirect readers to their Tumblr pages, where they updated constantly. Buzzfeed wins VIP, here, for their dramatic photo posts.
In other news... Mostly GIFs and a lot of love for "Friends" and Disney Channel Original Movies. So, obviously, you'll love it.
Yet another "Why didn't anyone think of this before?" Tumblrs. Kanye West lyrics mashed up with stills from Wes Anderson movies--match made in hipster heaven.
No judgment. Well, just a little...
This GIF Tumblr about the life of a Hollywood assistant just landed a TV sitcom deal.
And so did this one, which also has a book, by the way. Rhymes with suck.
One person decided to round up some of the most offensive, racist, sexist and, well, despicable tweets on the Internet every day. If you want to maintain your limited faith in humanity, it's probably best to look away from this one.
Recently stumbled upon this one, and it's pretty self-explanatory: Hilarious coloring book depictions of awesome rappers that you can print out and color in while you listen to said rapper. 2012, you guys!
Now this is storytelling at its finest. Writers submit hilarious personal sex anecdotes, typed into the address bar of a web browser and then illustrated with a Google Image search below. It'll make more sense if you check it out, I promise.
This is how we say, "Congrats on your contract extension with the Bulls, Coach Tom Thibodeau!" By reminding you of this here lovely Tumblr.
Twitter has basically declared this the Tumblr of the Week. It pairs "Arrested Development" stills of Lucille Bluth, the matriarch of the fictional and formerly wealthy Bluth family portrayed in the show, with quotes from presidential candidate Mitt Romney. If you're in the dark about the Bluths, it's not favorable, at all, to Romney.
Because even the leader of the free world looks ridiculous when eating a hoagie.
Another popular one making the rounds this week: Nothing like clever use of wordplay, name mockery and Photoshopped movie posters in an Internet meme: "Two lovers. A man. His country. Both ambitious, likeable and apparently meant for each other, but kept apart by some complicating circumstances." Well done, Internet.
Because I just want to look at some cats wearing tiaras. You, too?
How did we not think of this before? (To avoid Jay Cutler declaring war on RedEye again, we should mention that this is a parody Tumblr, with Photoshopped images of Jay Cutler with a cigarette in his mouth. It's not real. Carry on and laugh.).
What would celebrity mugshots from Lindsay Lohan and Mel Gibson look like in the 1920s? Go to this Tumblr to find out.
The tagline for this GIF-centric Tumblr says it all: "My friends are getting married, and I'm just 25 and drunk."
Speaking of marriage, how about some weird wedding behavior mockery? Appropriate for brides-to-be, single people who hate weddings and, well, anyone who's ever been to a wedding.
Whether you're planning your wedding or just really [bleepin'] love cake, this Tumblr is universally approved.
Let me stress that there are thousands upon thousands of Tumblrs dedicated to very specific types of wedding ideas and inspiration for the couples who are actually getting married and planning a shindig. Here's one of them that doesn't take itself too seriously but still shares plenty of nice photos and ideas.
Heard of "ghost signs"? You've seen them everywhere--they're hand-painted advertisements on sides of buildings that have been preserved but are significantly faded. This Tumblr collection of them might make you look around (up, specifically) at your neighborhood in a totally different way.
What better place to practice public voyeurism than on the CTA? Sure, it seems kind of creepy, but you already do it anyway. Why not make a whole Tumblr out of it?
Speaking of the CTA, here's a weekly comic documenting the trials and tribulations of your daily commute.
Self-explanatory. Stop wearing fedoras, nerd.
You've seen the videos, the highlights of which came from the circus of ads from Republican candidates for president in the past year, now follow the Tumblr.
Ever wanted a book's title to be a little more to-the-point? Posts on the Tumblr replace titles on cover images with more straight-forward ones. Example: Simply titling a collection of "Peanuts" comics "Sad, Depressing Children and Their Many Many Failures." Of course this Tumblr has a book deal, which was released Sept. 24.
You like charts, and these guys love charts. Follow this Tumblr for a careful curation of some of the best ones on the web as they relate to politics, everyday how-to's, "Breaking Bad" and more.
What better way to honor the icon than with some reblogs of vintage GIFs from his years on top?
Bad dog. Very very bad dog. Who doesn't know a mutt who deserves to be chastised on the Internet for pooping in the dishwasher?
Good dog. Lust-worthy interior design and furry creatures actually do go together, if you do it right.
Good dog. Very clearly a good dog. The puppies are OK, too.
Bad dog, most of the time. But this bad, fictional dog and his fictional owner that exchange fictional texts are making us laugh while laughing their way to the bank. The blog recently scored a book deal.
The timeless hair accessories of gymnasts haven't gotten nearly enough recognition throughout these Games. Is that an #NBCfail or just a #Societyfail?
Comedian and "Parks and Recreation" co-star Aziz Ansari seems to fit in quite well on the cover of pretty much any rap album ever.
I'm so glad the Mars Rover was able to safely unload the Statue of Liberty onto Mars upon landing. It fits in perfectly!
Rhymes with "duck." Speaking of the Mars Rover, you'd like a Tumblr dedicated to Bobak Ferdowsi, NASA's extremely hot guy with the mohawk seen in the control room while the Rover was landing, right? Right.
From the folks who brought us the Slightly Insulting Chicago Posters Tumblr, this one applies the insult treatment to countries around the world competing in the Games. You might/probably will be offended. And giggle.
We knew these NBA stars were hipsters before they were featured on this Tumblr. So, there.
Can someone update this thing, for crying out loud? Dedicated to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, this clever mashup named blog has a lot of potential but hasn't had a new post since February.
Friendly reminder--we're on here, and we're awesome. Click this weekend to see some fun Lollapalooza photos and more.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
