West Englewood saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Monday, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 5700 block of South Elizabeth Street, police said. Four days earlier, a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5700 block of South Hermitage Avenue, according to officials.
West Englewood has logged 14 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 27 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Ashburn, Greater Grand Crossing, the Near North Side, South Chicago, South Shore, West Pullman and Woodlawn, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a woman was found strangled Aug. 9 in the 7800 block of South Lowe Avenue in Auburn Gresham, police said.
Twenty-four homicides have been logged so far this month. Thirty-seven homicides were recorded in August 2011, according to RedEye data.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
