• Blue Star Museum Program: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, now through Labor Day, Sept. 7. Free admission for active-duty military and up to five immediate family members. Info: https://www.sdbgarden.org/military-specials.htm.

The San Diego Botanic Garden is proud to participate in the Blue Star Museum program, offering free admission to all active-duty, National Guard and Reserve members of the U.S. military and their families (card carrier plus five immediate family members).

For two weeks this July, Encinitas welcomes 25 award-winning young musicians from 20 countries who will make this their summer home as they prepare and present six glorious concerts in town. For the first time, the iPalpiti Orchestra will perform a free concert at the San Dieguito Academy Amphitheater on July 18. Please help us raise the much-needed funds to make the festival a success. Visiting artist Allison Renshaw leads students in discovering the process of mixed media in a style following her own artistic practice.

• Encinitas Classic Car Nights, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Coast Hwy 101 from D to J streets. Free. Call 760-943-1950.

Hot Rods, Woodies, and other classic and vintage cars will be parked in dedicated lots along Highway 101 and on side streets. Featuring live music at two locations and an award ceremony to close each evening. No registration needed for car owners.

County Supervisor Dave Roberts will talk about the multiple roles of a county supervisor for the fifth most populated county in the United States, as well as highlight some of the key initiatives and projects which he has championed during his first term.

• Concert: Jun Kawajiri, piano, 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. Cost: $20.

Jun is a professional pianist with a master’s degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He has expanded his musical performance to the U.S. and Japan. Feel the joy, gratitude and love of classical piano music by Mozart, Beethoven and Mussorgsky.

• Blurred Borders Dance Festival, 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, UCSD Wagner Dance Building, Studio Theatre, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla. Cost: $18, $22 at the door.

Featuring new works by Baja California’s premiere dance company Lux Boreal, Florida/San Diego artist Erin Tracy and Patricia Rincon Dance Collective’s Natalia Valerdi. These artists are crossing boundaries in their work and blurring the lines between art forms with quality and daring inventiveness.

• Palm, Cycad, Bamboo and Tropical Plant Sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Drive. Free with paid admission/membership.

This one-of-a-kind event features rare and exotic species of palms, cycads and other tropical plants provided by exceptional Southern California Nurseries.
